HyCoSy (Hysterosalpingo Contrast Sonography) test

Is a specialized, outpatient ultrasound procedure designed to check the permeability (patency) of the fallopian tubes. It determines if the fallopian tubes are open or blocked, a crucial factor in diagnosing infertility

07

An Antral Follicle Count (AFC)

Is a transvaginal ultrasound test, usually done on day 3 of the menstrual cycle, that counts small, fluid-filled sacs (2–9 mm) in the ovaries to assess a woman's ovarian reserve and predict IVF response. It is a reliable marker for estimating egg supply and diagnosing PCOS.

08

Ovulation monitoring via transvaginal ultrasound (also called a follicular study or follicle tracking)

Is a series of short scans used to observe the growth of ovarian follicles in real-time. It identifies the exact window of maximum fertility by verifying when a follicle reaches maturity and succe

09

The Ultrasound Timeline (Standard 28-Day Cycle)

A typical monitoring cycle involves 3 to 5 quick ultrasound sessions scheduled at strategic points:
-> Days 2–3 (Baseline Scan): Performed during early menstruation to check the Antral Follicle Count (AFC) and rule out any residual ovarian cysts from previous cycles.
-> Days 8–10 (Initial Tracking): Started around this time to identify the emergence of the dominant follicle—the single sac destined to release the egg.
-> Days 11–14 (Peak Monitoring): Repeated every 1 to 2 days as the dominant follicle grows rapidly, measuring roughly 1–2 mm per day.
-> Post-Ovulation Scan: Conducted to visually confirm that the follicle has collapsed, indicating successful ovulation. > Key Clinical MeasurementsMature Follicle Size: Ovulation generally occurs when the dominant follicle reaches 18 mm to 25 mm in diameter.
-> Endometrial Thickness: The ultrasound simultaneously measures the thickness of the uterine lining. A healthy, multi-layered lining of 7 mm to 12 mm is optimal for embryo implantation.
-> Main Uses for This TrackingOptimizing Natural Conception: Pinpoints the exact days to prioritize timed intercourse.
-> Medicated Cycles (OI/IUI): Dictates when to administer a "trigger shot" (hCG injection) to control ovulation timing perfectly before an Intrauterine Insemination (IUI).
-> Investigating Infertility: Confirms whether anovulation (lack of ovulation) or poor follicular development is an underlying iss
