Why blood testing matters in gynaecological care
Hormonal and reproductive health can’t be assessed by symptoms alone.
A blood test gives your doctor precise, measurable answers, about ovarian reserve, thyroid function, fertility markers, or pregnancy, that guide every decision made about your care.
Because testing takes place on-site, results reach your gynaecologist quickly, and findings are discussed with you in the same clinical journey.
What blood testing can reveal
Ovarian reserve & fertility
AMH, FSH, LH and Estradiol help assess your remaining fertility potential and guide family planning or fertility treatment decisions.
PCOS & hormonal balance
Testosterone, SHBG and DHEA-S identify hormonal imbalances behind irregular cycles, acne or excess hair growth.
Thyroid & prolactin
TSH, FT4 and Prolactin levels are checked whenever irregular cycles, fertility concerns or recurrent miscarriage are being investigated.
Pregnancy confirmation & monitoring

What to expect during your blood draw
Blood collection at Nexxmedis takes just a few minutes and is carried out by experienced nursing staff in a calm, private setting.
Before starting, we confirm your identity and go through your test request together. You'll be seated comfortably, or, if you prefer, lying down while the site is gently cleansed and prepared.
The draw itself typically takes between 3 and 7 minutes, and your sample is labelled at your side, in front of you, before leaving the room.
If needles make you anxious, tell us. We're happy to talk you through each step, adjust your position, or take a short pause, your comfort matters as much as your results.
How to prepare
Most hormonal panels, including AMH, thyroid and prolactin testing, require no fasting at all. However,
a few specific tests do need some preparation:
Fasting tests (glucose, cholesterol, metabolic panels)
No food or drink other than water for 8–12 hours beforehand.
Cycle-dependent hormones (FSH, LH, Estradiol)
Ideally drawn on days 2–4 of your cycle for the most accurate baseline.
Morning hormones (Prolactin, Cortisol)
Best drawn between 08:00 and 10:00, after at least two hours awake and a calm start to your day.
Hydration
Drinking water beforehand makes the draw easier and more comfortable.
Please bring: your referral or prescription, a valid ID (Belgian eID, passport or national ID card), and your mutuelle / health insurance card.
When you'll receive your results
Standard panels, iincluding hormonal tests, thyroid function and pregnancy testing, are typically available within 24 to 48 hours.
More specialised assays, such as AMH or genetic panels, may take 3 to 7 working days.

Do I need to fast before my blood test?
Only for specific tests, such as glucose or cholesterol panels. Most hormonal tests don’t require fasting, we’ll let you know in advance if yours does.
Is the blood draw painful?
Most patients describe it as a brief pinch. Our nursing team uses fine, safety-engineered needles and gentle technique to keep discomfort to a minimum.
What if I have difficult veins or feel anxious about needles?
Just let us know beforehand. We can adjust your position, apply a warm compress, or take extra time, your comfort always comes first.
